Overview

At Greentech Power Solutions, we specialize in providing consultancy services for Electricity Duty Exemption (EDE) in Gujarat. This exemption is crucial for both new and expanding industrial units, as it offers significant savings on electricity costs, fostering a more favourable economic environment for industrial growth.

Who is Governed by the EDE Scheme?

Governing Body: The scheme is regulated by the Energy & Petrochemicals Department of the Gujarat Government, ensuring transparency and adherence to state policies.

Eligibility and Benefits

New Industrial Units: Any new manufacturing enterprise or unit that begins operations by generating or procuring electricity can apply for an exemption on electricity charges for their industrial consumption. This benefit lasts for five years from the date of production commencement.

Application Requirement: Must apply within 90 days from the start of production to qualify for the exemption.

Additional Industrial Units: Existing units undergoing expansion with an investment that either exceeds 50% of their initial capital investment or amounts to more than Rs. 100 crores qualify for an exemption. This exemption applies to the electricity used in the additional units for the entire year.

Application Timeline: Similar to new units, the application must be submitted within 90 days from the start of production in the expanded facilities.

Detailed Benefits

Electricity Duty Relief: The scheme offers various reductions in electricity duty:.

Low-Tension (L.T.) Power Connections: 10% of the electricity bill.

High-Tension (H.T.) Power Connections: 15% of the electricity bill.

Diesel Generator Sets: Up to 125 KVA, with specific rates per unit generated and consumed by the enterprise.

Additional Considerations

Special Zones: For units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), the exemption period can extend to 10 years, providing an enhanced incentive for investment in these areas.

Expansion Criteria: The exemption also covers expansions, under specific conditions, for a duration of five years, promoting continual growth and scalability of operations.

Compliance and Installation Requirements

Motive Power Connection: Must be newly installed and registered in the name of the proprietor or the unit.

Metering and Sealing: Compliance with metering regulations is mandatory, including installation and sealing by the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) for office and factory lighting.

Machinery and Equipment: The scheme mandates that new plant and machinery should be imported if second-hand, ensuring modernization and efficiency in operations.
